How to Adopt
1. Read our Adoption Policies to ensure you are eligible and prepared to adopt.
2. See which of our animals are available for adoption on our Facebook page or by visiting the shelter during our animal viewing hours (10AM-12PM and 1PM-3PM, 7 days a week).
3. Complete and submit an adoption application. Please ensure that all fields on the application are filled in fully as appropriate. An adoption coordinator will review your application and will be contact with you regarding its status. Please note that due to our limited number of staff members, it may take some time to review your application and we ask that applicants are patient with the reviewing process.
4. Once approved for adoption, you can call the shelter to make an appointment to come pick up your new best friend. At the shelter, you will be required to sign our adoption agreement and disclaimer and pay the corresponding adoption fee (via cash or e-transfer ONLY).

Adoption Policies
Please read the following adoption policies BEFORE submitting your adoption application.
1. You must be prepared to pay the required fees (cash OR e-transfer ONLY at this time)
2. You must have your animal spayed or neutered when it reaches the appropriate age, or within the required time given by the SPCA.
3. All other dogs and cats residing in the home must be spayed or neutered prior to adoption from the Gander and Area SPCA.
4. You must be prepared to have your animal examined and/or vaccinated by a veterinarian within one month of adoption, if required by the SPCA.
5. The SPCA may need to speak with all adults currently residing in the home to verify that they are in agreement with the adoption of an animal.
6. If you are renting your home, you must provide a contact number for the landlord of the property. The SPCA will verify with the landlord that you are permitted to adopt a pet.
7. If you are renting your home, you must have been living at your current residence for a minimum of 6 months prior to adopting an animal from the SPCA.
8. You must understand that the SPCA does not guarantee the health, fitness, or temperament of our animals.
9. You must understand that the SPCA does not guarantee that an animal has received any training or is housebroken at the time of adoption.
10. You must be prepared to have the animal you adopt as a house pet (i.e., kept indoors).
11. You should understand the time and financial commitment involved in owning an animal.
12. You must understand that, should a problem arise concerning the animal adopted from the SPCA, THE ANIMAL SHALL NOT BE SOLD OR GIVEN TO ANOTHER HOME unless the Gander and Area SPCA is advised and permission is given.
13. You must understand that the SPCA reserves the right to deny any application it receives.
14. The Gander and Area SPCA will adopt to applicant outside of our immediate area, however it is the adopters responsibility to arrange appropriate transportation and that such transportation must be approved by the SPCA prior to the adoption.
15. You must provide 3 references on your adoption application. An adoption coordinator from the SPCA will check these references.

Kittens - $100
Kittens/cats - vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, and FeLv/FIV tested: $200
Cats - neutered, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, and FeLv/FIV tested: $280
Cats - spayed, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, and FeLv/FIV tested: $300
Please note: All adoption fees are subject to change at the SPCA's discretion.
Kittens/cats - vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, and FeLv/FIV tested: $200
Cats - neutered, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, and FeLv/FIV tested: $280
