This #MeantToBeMonday edition starts with the story of Apollo, and how even after only one week, his family couldn't bare the thought of losing him.
“Early in 2017, after giving us 14 wonderful years, we had to say goodbye to our boy, Quincey. The heartache was more than we could handle at times, often vowing never to have another dog – it was just too painful in the end. As the months passed by we realized how lonely our house felt without the companionship and love that only a dog can give. We opened ourselves up to the idea of once again bringing a dog home, just as a beautiful litter of dirty white puppies were rescued by the Happy Valley – Goose Bay SPCA and transferred to Gander. One look and we knew that fluffy boy with the blue collar had to be ours. The first week was full of joy, loaded with snuggles, sloppy puppy kisses and lots of laughter, however it quickly tuned into heartache and worry when our new pup got sick. There were emergency vet visits, multiple medications and many, many moments we thought we were going to lose him - as well as a few times we were told we should give up. But we couldn't. That happy, sweet pup deserved a fighting chance, no matter the cost. With the help of Dr. Heffern, he slowly began to get better and after 7 long months of worry, he was finally weened off his medication and given a clean bill of health! Apollo is now your typical young husky mix, playful, full of energy, dramatic (of course) and very loving - we can't imagine our lives without him. Our life with Apollo didn't start out the way we had hoped but that being said, if we were given the chance to do all over again, knowing he would get sick, we would still pick that little boy with the blue collar. It was meant to be.” |
