When It's Meant to Be, It Will Be...
When most people think of adopting a rescue pet they often only think of Dogs and Cats. But there are other animals out there in need of homes just as badly. I have always had a soft spot for rescue animals, and wondered if such a thing existed for Bunnies. Turns out it does! At the time it was operating as “Bird and Small Animal Rescue.” now known as “Hoppy Homes”. When I adopted Mickey from the Rescue, he was obviously a neglect case; he wasn't social, he did not trust people, and he would not eat. And given the time frame that the rescue received him, we assumed he was a Easter Gift gone wrong. Sadly this happens far too often. Poor Mickey was waiting for his forever family for 9 long months until he found us. After some proper TLC Mickey started to become the most affectionate little guy! He was worth the time and patience and vet care it took him to become healthy. And his remaining 13 years with us were truly a blessing. He has since crossed the rainbow bridge, at the ripe age of approximately 14! Not a day goes by that I don't think about him. Giving him a second chance was one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives. We did everything to love and care for him. With Easter just around the corner, we urge people to avoid giving bunnies as a gift. If you are seriously considering getting a bunny, please make adoption your first choice. Bunnies are a long term commitment. |
